Background:

UbiA prenyltransferase domain-containing protein 1 (UBIAD1) is thought to be involved in cholesterol and phospholipid metabolism. UBIAD1 is a prenyltransferase that mediates the formation of menaquinone-4 (MK-4) and coenzyme Q10. MK-4 is a vitamin K2 isoform required for endothelial cell development. UBIAD1 also mediates the conversion of phylloquinone (PK) into MK-4, probably by cleaving the side chain of phylloquinone (PK) to release 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone (menadione; K3) and then prenylating it with geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP) to form MK-4.  In addition, UBIAD1 plays a role in cardiovascular development independently of MK-4 biosynthesis, by acting as a coenzyme Q10 biosyntetic enzyme: coenzyme Q10, also named ubiquinone, plays a important antioxidant role in the cardiovascular system. Mutations in the UBIAD1 gene are associated with Schnyder crystalline corneal dystrophy.

Other Names:

UbiA prenyltransferase domain-containing protein 1, SCCD, TERE1

Source and Purity:

Rabbit polyclonal antibodies were produced by immunizing animals with a GST-fusion protein containing the middle region of mouse UBIAD1. Antibodies were purified by affinity purification using immunogen.

Storage Buffer and Condition:

Supplied in 1 x PBS (pH 7.4), 100 ug/ml BSA, 40% Glycerol, 0.01% NaN3. Store at -20 °C. Stable for 6 months from date of receipt.

Species Specificity:

Human, Mouse

Tested Applications:

WB: 1:500-1:2,000 (detect endogenous protein*)

*: The apparent protein size on WB may be different from the calculated M.W. due to modifications.
