Background:

SLC11A1 is a multi-pass membrane protein also known as Natural resistance-associated macrophage protein 1 (NRAMP1).  It is a macrophage-specific divalent transition metal (iron and manganese) transporter involved in iron metabolism and host resistance to certain pathogens. It controls natural resistance to infection with intracellular parasites. Pathogen resistance involves sequestration of Fe2+ and Mn2+, cofactors of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic catalases and superoxide dismutases, not only to protect the macrophage against its own generation of reactive oxygen species, but to deny the cations to the pathogen for synthesis of its protective enzymes.

Source and Purity:

Rabbit polyclonal antibodies were produced by immunizing animals with a GST-fusion protein containing the N-terminal region of human SLC11A1. Antibodies were purified by affinity purification using immunogen.
