Background:

Structural maintenance of chromosomes protein 3 (SMC3) belongs to the SMC family and the SMC3 subfamily, and is a central component of cohesin, a complex required for chromosome cohesion during the cell cycle. The cohesin complex may form a large proteinaceous ring within which sister chromatids can be trapped. At anaphase, the complex is cleaved and dissociates from chromatin, allowing sister chromatids to segregate. Cohesion is coupled to DNA replication and is involved in DNA repair. The cohesin complex plays also an important role in spindle pole assembly during mitosis and in chromosomes movement.

Other Names:

Structural maintenance of chromosomes protein 3, SMC protein 3, SMC-3, Basement membrane-associated chondroitin proteoglycan, Bamacan, Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan 6, Chromosome-associated polypeptide, hCAP, BAM, BMH, CSPG6, SMC3L1

Source and Purity:

Rabbit polyclonal antibodies were produced by immunizing animals with a GST-fusion protein containing the N-terminal region of human SMC3. Antibodies were purified by affinity purification using immunogen.

Storage Buffer and Condition:

Supplied in 1 x PBS (pH 7.4), 100 ug/ml BSA, 40% Glycerol, 0.01% NaN3. Store at -20 °C. Stable for 6 months from date of receipt.

Species Specificity:

Human, Mouse

Tested Applications:

WB: 1:1,000-1:3,000 (detect endogenous protein*)

*: The apparent protein size on WB may be different from the calculated M.W. due to modifications.
